Report to the Parish (Assembly) 30 April 2020

We expected this year to be different from usual due to the impending Local Government Reorganisation. In fact it has proved to be very different, but not for that reason, so this report which ordinarily would have been presented to the Annual Parish Assembly is instead being made available on-line and via the notice board.

Local Government Reform - Government Decision

The Secretary of State has today issued his formal decision in relation to the future structure of local government, with a written statement to The House.

In short, the government decision is: -

1. To replace the current arrangement with two new Unitary Councils (one for the north, one for the west).

As a result of the resignation of Cllr Georgina Royle a vacancy has arisen on the parish council. Formal notice will be given on 28 February and following a stipulated period either an election will be called, if requested by sufficient electors, or the council will be able to co-opt.
