Local Elections Postponed!
Due to any possible impact of the Coronavirus situation the Government has today confirmed that the local elections due to be held on 7 May 2020 are now postponed to May 2021.
Chief Executive of the Electoral Commission, Bob Posner, says "We welcome and support the UK Government's decision to postpone the May elections. This will allow local authorities to focus their efforts on delivering front line public services and importantly, mitigates risks to voters and campaigners. We will work with the wider electoral community to ensure elections in 2021, including these postponed elections, are well run, command public trust and attract high levels of participation."
For most parish and town councils in Northamptonshire the effect will be to add on another year to the already extended term of office. Existing councillors will now have a six year term.
