Help is at hand with Volunteer Car Service

Kettering Volunteer Car Service: a volunteer car service to help the elderly and disabled get to a range of medical appointments. This can be to the local doctor, any hospital, optician, dentist or other medically connected appointment. Whilst medical appointments are our priority, we can also take you to visit relatives in hospital and care homes. You can use this service is you are; elderly, disabled, have mobility problems or experience difficulty using public transport.

Volunteer drivers use their own cars to take members to their medical appointments. The appointment is made by you calling the office. We will need to know when and where you are going. We work on appointment times and the driver will collect you from your home in plenty of time. The drivers will wait up to 2 hours for you and take you home.

There is a small annual membership fee to pay. Fares are paid directly to the driver to cover their out of pocket expenses and include a small admin charge which the driver will bring into the office. If your appointment takes longer than 2 hours and the driver leaves the hospital, they will return to pick you up and you will be charged a 'double' journey. If you have any queries, please call the office for further information.

If you are attending an NHS hospital and claim certain benefits, you may be able to reclaim the cost of the fare; you will need to enquire at the hospital.
