Wilbarston celebrates the Coronation

Sat, 06 May 2023 10:00

The ceremony will be screened in the Village Hall, for those who would prefer to watch this historic event in a group rather than sitting at home alone in front of the telly. Refreshments provided.

Royal Coronation Afternoon Teas will be served in the Milking Parlour on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th Royal Teas must be pre-booked to eat in or take away. (The milking parlour will open for other food and drink 10 – 4pm)

Look out for more details nearer the Coronation in the shop, at the Fox and on the noticeboard.

Decorations: At the last coronation in 1953 and at the 1977 Silver Jubilee celebrations there were prizes for the best decorated house in the village. Please decorate your house in 2023 and perhaps your road frontage outside as well. Make your own bunting from new or old fabric, reuse bunting or purchase some.

Make your own bunting:
1. Take small squares of old or new fabric, 18 – 30 cm across
2. Fold each square in half triangular-wise right sides together;
3. Stitch along one short side of triangle through the two layers; 4. Turn inside out and press with the seam in centre; Fold in the flap then stitch the triangles onto tape or ribbon. (The haberdashery stall in Harborough Market will have suitable festive fabric and tapes.)
